Joseph Sequin (generation # 2) married Sophia Sylvia Gasco dit Charette. About 1878 he moved to Michigan to work in the lumber boom. Joseph and Sophia Sequin settled in Bay County, MI. Their first two children believed to have been born in Canada. All the others were born in Michigan.
In Joseph's obit are listed three sisters; Mrs. W. J. LaVergne (first name is Emma)(initials in error) of Detroit, MI; Mrs. Norman Roe of New York and Mrs. Mitchell of Canada. There has been mentioned the possibility of a brother named Arthur.
Not much is known about Sophia. Her last name may be slightly different than the way it is written here. Apparently, Sophia could not write English as her maiden name appears spelled differently on several of her children's birth, death and marriage records. Most are very similar in sound but a couple are quite different; This is the various spellings I have encountered for Sophia's maiden name. Shorette; Sharat; Chauret; Challette; Ceress; Gascon; Gescheare; and Gasco' dit Charette. The last was received from a relative also researching these family lines. Also have found a possible new name for Sophia of Loranger.
